G Art Gallery is delighted to present Ryan Ng, a 19-year-old young urban sketcher and illustrator who is a rising star in Penang’s art scene. In the art exhibition – “Animal Companion” exhibits a series of paintings in which he infused both Western and Eastern art techniques and concepts into it. He illustrates his artworks by using charcoal and red paint to attract audiences’ attention and to encapsulate them into his world of imagination.
In 2016, as a form of therapy, Ryan Ng started doing ballpoint pen drawings and decided to share it with art enthusiasts on a Facebook group. His artworks received great responses and his talent was widely recognised by many people. It served as the starting point for him in pursuing his dream in the field of arts.
He began his journey to the Penang Chapter of Urban Sketchers, a global community of artists which brought him to draw outdoors in countries such as Kuching, KL, Taiwan, US and many more. His active participation in Urban Sketchers Workshop allowed him to meet up with many artists and architects from all around the world.
Furthermore, the finesse and artistry skills of his artworks have been exhibited in multiple occasions and venues such as the 5-Star St Regis Hotel Langkawi and Sahabat Alam Malaysia. He also has conducted live Chinese painting demonstrations alongside his teacher, Rosalynn Teoh who is well known for her Chinese brush paintings at the Penang Chinese Brush Painting Society’s annual exhibition and 35th Malaysian Chinese Cultural Festival. He has also participated in several art exhibitions including mini urban sketching exhibitions which was held in conjunction with Georgetown Heritage Festival, Penang Art District Spotlight and Art Showdown in China House.
Passionate in art, Ryan’s animal inspired creativity stems from his childhood memories such as the koi in his father’s fish pond, animal printings and sparrows that were playing around his yard. His childhood background cultured him to be an animal lover and he is endlessly fascinated by the pictures of animals. Therefore, his drawings usually revolves around the subject of animals by adding the elements of human and some Chinese painting to create the contemporary illustrations.
