G Art Gallery is pleased to present Koh Teng Huat, a prominent Malaysian artist and the founder of Penang Balik Pulau Art Society, exhibiting his series of amazing paintings in “All In Penang”. The beauty of Penang is captured through his paintings depicting the architecture as well as sceneries of fishing village and paddy fields.
Adventurous and passionate, Koh travelled throughout Malaysia and worked in various fields before establishing his journey as a self-taught artist. Hailing from Penang, the artist built his repertoire creating picturesque landscape designs using a palette knife as his tool and skill application of the impasto technique. Koh is among a handful of artists in Penang who actively paint with a palette knife. His bold and expressive personality as well as his exuberance in art is uninhibitedly demonstrated through each of his art strokes.
Koh is widely addressed as “Ah Ku” among the local community, conservationists and art circles. The intense bonding to his hometown was the main factor that initiated his art journey. His endless dedication in promoting the untouched fishing village of Balik Pulau through art, culture and heritage has touched many hearts of the local people in Penang. He wishes to document the existing scene of Balik Pulau onto canvas before it is faded away along with the development process. Through art, he attempts to raise more awareness on environmental conservation and also to advocate the multicultural harmoniousness in the country.
“Art is not supposed to be treated as something prominent. Art should be reachable. People should be able to feel or experience art in everyday life!” says Koh. He enduringly organizes art activities in Balik Pulau, hoping to realize his dream one day of making Balik Pulau an International Art Village or preferably known as The Art-topia.
Since 2010, Koh has started to participate in numerous art exhibitions held both in and outside Malaysia, such as Singapore, Taiwan, Macau and China. His artworks are widely recognised by art galleries and it is also one of the favourite collections of the locals as well as the international collectors. Additionally, his artworks have also been included in Malaysia’s art auction market since 2014. Koh has won awards such as the Outstanding Achievement from Worldwide Excellence Award in 2019, Asian Outstanding Artist Award from Hong Kong Economy Net in 2018 and he has also been assigned as the Malaysia International Culture and Art Envoy during Malaysia- International Wellness & Cultural Tourism Conference.
